The call invites German universities, non‑university research institutions, technology‑oriented SMEs and industrial companies to establish a bilateral Innovation Hub in Brazil focused on climate‑neutral energy generation. The Hub will serve as a permanent partner structure linking German and Brazilian research and industry actors, with the potential to expand to other Latin American countries. Eligibility: Applicants must be based in Germany and have a legal presence (office, branch, or public/private institution) in Germany at the time of funding disbursement. Eligible entities include universities, research institutions, technology‑oriented SMEs and industrial companies. Funding: The project is divided into three phases – a 3‑year Aufbau (setup) phase, a 4‑year Haupt (main) phase and a 2‑year Schluss (final) phase. Non‑repayable grants are available up to €300 000 per project per year in the Aufbau phase, €750 000 per project per year in the Haupt phase and €400 000 per project per year in the Schluss phase. Application process: The call is two‑stage. Sketches for the Aufbau phase must be submitted by 10 September 2026. Successful sketches will be invited to submit a full application for the Haupt and Schluss phases. The first stage is evaluated in the last year of the Aufbau phase; only one project per consortium will be selected for continuation. Eligible content: Projects must address one or more of the following research themes: green hydrogen and hydrogen from biomass, hydrogen derivatives, biofuels, sustainable aviation fuels, and material research related to these energy topics. The Hub should include joint research groups, laboratories, pilot facilities, and institutional networks in Brazil. Partner structure: The Hub must be established as an institute or equivalent at a Brazilian partner institution, with a permanent office or laboratory, a co‑directed governing board (e.g., supervisory board, advisory board), and a Memorandum of Understanding or cooperation agreement. A long‑term financing concept and a roadmap for sustainability should be developed during the Aufbau phase. Evaluation and continuation: Progress is evaluated at the end of the Aufbau phase. Successful projects may receive funding for the Haupt and Schluss phases, contingent on meeting the defined objectives and demonstrating a viable sustainability plan for the Hub beyond BMFTR support.
