Result description
A combination of aesthetics, lightness, integrability and multi-functional Photovoltaic solution applicable in different sectors (BIPV, transport, agriculture, urban environment, etc.); highly versatile and custom designs.
Lightweight PV modules are monolithic, adaptable to complex geometries, with improved mechanical properties and reduced weight, enhancing and creating new opportunities for BIPV, transport, agriculture and urban applications. They can be customized not just in terms of geometries (curved shapes) but also in terms of colors, sizes. In addition, due to their lightweight nature, they are seamlessly integrated over final applications. This is the case of several BIPV applications, e.g. the colaboration with TULiPPS and its Click&Go mounting system as an essential part of BIPV.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
In December 2021, TECNALIA has set up a start-up company (IZPITEK SOLAR S.L.) for the design, manufacturing and commercialisation of PV modules and products based on this technology. In a first stage it has been established with the participation of a Spanish SME specialised in highly innovative design and manufacturing solutions. Next steps are the set-up of the manufacturing plant, including facilities and equipment, certification costs, staff recruitment, etc. First production is estimated by 2023. At present, marketing strategy (web, marketing products, brochures, logo…) are being proposed.
In the field of BIPV (facades, roofs), the forecast for annual production is: 10.000 sqm in 2024; 15.000 sqm in 2025; 30.000 sqm in 2026. First sales are envisaged in Europe in a first approach, accompanied by companies such as TULiPPS. Patents cover also US and China. The market and commercialization strategy and plans are currently being defined in collaboration with the shareholders.
The business model will be based on the start-up creation and direct sales to PV/BIPV manufacturers, lightweight parts manufacturers. companies in the value chain of Renewable Energies. Additionally, there are other sectors, such us transport, infraestructures in which this technology can be extended, will assure the future sales.
