COGNITUS technology provides enrichment of content with contextualised metadata, which enables automatic tagging of content contributed by the users. Using a cross-platform social media crawler toolbox, the semantic metadata in social media (e.g. Twitter and YouTube) associated with the relevant events is gathered and processed. The UGC contributed to the COGNITUS is then enriched by metadata as an outcome of analysis components that are able to process the raw input data obtained from social platforms and extract semantically meaningful entities that are relevant to the event. The metadata filtering process includes the analysis of semantic characteristics of the content, and a set of tags are associated to the videos. The extracted metadata tags are subsequently used in indexing the UGC content to enable search, as well as media synchronisation and event plotting.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The technology is near production ready. BBC in the UK and at FORTHNET in Greece have successfully trialled installations. Deployments were launched at high profile cultural entertainment and sports events across both countries. UGC video content was captured, enhanced and enriched by the COGNITUS technology components, and validation was provided by UGC contributors and producers.
