Result description
The FairTax project analysed various options for sustainability-oriented own resources to finance the EU budget: a border carbon adjustment for the EU ETS, a flight ticket tax, a financial transactions tax, a share of a CCCTB, a surcharge on national fuel taxes, and a net wealth tax. Potential revenues were estimated, as well as the burden for individual Member States. Moreover, the legal basis for the various analysed options was explored. Based on a comprehensive list of sustainability-oriented evaluation criteria covering economic, social, environmental and cultural/institutional aspects of sustainability, a summary evaluation of the various options for sustainability-oriented own resources was untertaken.
