Result description
Smart Climate Hydropower Tool is an innovative web-cloud-based service that implements a set of data-driven methods for hydropower energy forecast relying on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
It is intended to simplify Hydropower energy producer’s decision-making processes, by applying available Copernicus CDS operational seasonal forecasts to predict seasonal discharge and subsequent hydropower production, both for management and financial planning.
The developed service entirely uses data potentially available worldwide to foster application to virtually any hydropower plant, and is targeted to technicians and energy market traders.
The climate service SCHT is available in a operative mode for two hydropower plants located in Colombia with annual energy production of 2000 and 5500 GWh managed by ENEL Greenpower, where forecast beyond currently available historical averages is still a challenge and where the added value of seasonal forecast has been positively assessed.
