The SCORE Digital Twin and Early Warning Support System (DT-EWS) is an advanced software platform designed to help coastal cities manage climate-related risks such as flooding. It integrates real-time sensor data, weather forecasts, and environmental models to provide continuous monitoring and short- to long-term simulations of flooding scenarios. The system features two main subsystems: the User Scenario Evaluation (USE), which allows users to run “what-if” analyses including the impact of Ecosystem-based Adaptations (EBAs), and the Early Warning Support (EWS), which automatically projects flood risks and issues alerts. Developed collaboratively with municipalities and stakeholders in SCORE Coastal City Living Labs, the DT-EWS supports informed decision-making, urban planning, and climate adaptation by offering detailed, location-specific risk assessments and damage projections through a user-friendly interface.

The DT-EWS system was designed to help decisionmakers within municipalities monitor real-time conditions, simulate extreme weather events, and assess potential flood impacts. The aim is to improve urban resilience by providing an integrated platform that combined predictive modelling with real-time sensor data from sensors and weather forecasts. Primary users include municipalities, government bodies, civil protection agencies, environmental managers, and industry stakeholders.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The DT-EWS has been deployed in the pilot cities of the SCORE project of Massa, Italy, Vilnova i la Geltrú, Spain, and Oarsoaldea, Spain. The platform can be built for additional cities and the SCORE team is looking for opportunities to do so.
The DT-EWS can be adapted to any coastal city context, and can be scaled to the necessary requirements and conditions of that area.
The DT-EWS can be built for any coastal city.
The DT-EWS development team focuses on adding value to different needs of DT-EWS users, and can adapt this to various contexts.
