Result description
The result is a software-based solution enabling programmable in-network operations for ultra-reliable and time-sensitive networking in Industry 4.0 environments. It includes an SDN controller, a node operating system, and P4 programs designed to enhance network programmability and performance. The solution allows network devices to execute advanced functions directly in the data plane, such as AI feature extraction and hardware-accelerated processing of demanding network tasks (e.g., encryption and firewalling), reducing CPU load and improving efficiency.
A key innovation is the in-band telemetry architecture, where telemetry data is processed directly within the P4 pipeline at wire speed. This enables accurate, real-time network awareness without overloading switch CPUs. The system also supports advanced monitoring, QoS management, deep packet inspection, and cybersecurity features. Overall, the solution provides deterministic networking, low and bounded latency, and increased robustness against cyber-attacks, making it suitable for industrial and mission-critical applications.
