cruise report of the marine expedition FocusX1
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
- Use of research Infrastructure
- Collaboration
Beyond the marine research interest of this work, we are activley looking for industry partners (submarine telecom cable manufacturers) to develop a new generation of telecom cables with sensor fibers to perform environmental measurements (seismological and natural hazard applications) and actively monitor the structural health of the cable (natural or man-made disturbances, accidental and/or intentional).
- Other Actors who can help us fulfil our market potential
- Research and Technology Organisations
- Academia/ Universities
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The current deployment of a 6-km long fiber optic strain cable and continuous monitoring using the Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (BOTDR) technique is a demonstrator, using a specifically designed fiber optic cable. Our goal is the development of dual-use cables with an industry partner with telecom fibers (in the core) and additional sensor fibers (loosely and tightly bound).
