From prototypes to small series – we form metallic materials and composites precisely for your applications.
The IFW Dresden offers a wide range of forming technologies for metallic materials and metal-based composites. We process wires by drawing and hammering, produce strips using cold or hot rolling, and perform forging processes for customized components. Our systems cover various cross-sections, lengths, and material conditions – from room temperature and cryogenic processing to hot forming up to 1200 °C. Special lubricant adaptations and coating processes are also possible.
Your benefits
- Wide forming spectrum for wires, strips and bars
- Combination of cold, hot and cryogenic forming
- Adjustable process parameters for different alloys
- Industrial-level dimensional accuracy for small to medium batch sizes
- Flexible tool and roller systems for special requirements
Methods
- Rolling : Duo-rolling mill (h = 1–50 mm, w up to 100 mm, RT up to 1200 °C), four-high rolling mill (h = 0.1–4 mm), 12-fold rolling mill (h = 0.015–0.1 mm)
- Wire drawing : Chain drawing benches (D = 0.5–28 mm), bull block units (D = 0.5–6.5 mm), RT or cryogenic
- Forging : Air hammer (D = 16–80 mm, RT and up to 1200 °C)
- Hammering/swivelling : 2- & 4-jaw machines (D = 0.3–30 mm), RT, cryogenic or hot (up to 800 °C)
Fields of application
- Production of functional and structural wires
- Production of thin strips for electronics, sensors and energy storage
- Adaptation of semi-finished products for forming and joining technologies
- Prototype and small series production of special metal and composite materials
