Result description

We propose a novel continuous Local Flexibility Market (LFM) as a market-based approach to manage Distribution Network (DN) issues. The LFM allows the trading of active and reactive power from assets located in the DN and incorporates DN constraints via linearized AC sensitivities around the DN operating point. Trade acceptance rules ensure financial and network feasibility. Network feasibility is satisfied if a potential trade mitigates the anticipated network constraint violations. The LFM is designed to allow partial bid execution and addresses three different types of DN violations, namely network congestion, voltage violations, and deviations in the distribution-transmission connection node. The LFM implementation requires minimum information exchange between the DSO and the MO to respect constitutional limits and to be computationally light and is therefore suitable for continuous trading applications.

We specifically need / are looking for

We would be interested in running a pilot project for trades execution under the principles described in HEnEx ID market mechanism. For that, we will need the involvment of key market parties, DSOs and policy makers, to identify their needs, as well help in the technical implementation of the project.

Current stage description

The LFM design and algorithmic implementation is currently tested for its replicability and scalability in a network of 100 buses.

Also a web-based prototype application with graphical user interface is implemented.

The next step is to run a pilot project with actual trading taking place between participants.

The operation of the market mechanism is tested in different networks of different sizes.

Replicability

The market mechanism has a simple design that can be integrated in different markets and applied in different networks.

Sustainability

Sustainability of the market mechanism is still not examined, however as the needs addressed by the proposed solution will escalate in the future, sustainability in the long term is guaranteed.
