Result description
The integrated ECONUTRI system to transition to a circular biobased agriculture is based on three pillars: 1) organic waste biomass is processed to recover plant nutrients and returned to the soil to support a sustainable production with minimal nutrient emissions, towards a target of zero pollution, 2) mineral fertilisation is tailored to the plant needs, while nutrient emissions are collected and recycled when this feasible and 3) gaseous emissions (Nh3 and GHG) originating during recycling of organic biomass and from fertiliser residues which are minimised at barn, biomass storage and field level.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- To raise awareness and possibly influence policy
- Collaboration
- Fellowship to advance my/our research
The further exploitation of the Integrated ECONUTRI system requires funding for post-project validation and scale-up, collaboration with farmers cooperatives, advisory services, fertilizer companies waste and biomass companies, technical expertise for system integration, industrial partnerships for market deployment. Additional needs include policy support, awareness raising, training and demonstration activities to promote the uptake of circular, bio-based and low emission nutrient management solutions in agriculture
- EU and Member State Policy-makers
- Research and Technology Organisations
- Academia/ Universities
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The Integrated ECONUTRI system is at TRL 5-6. Its main components have been developed, validated and demonstrated.
The next steps are to further integrate the individual technologies into a coherent system, test it across more crops, regions and farming conditions, involve end-users in validation, define exploitation, business models, and secure partnerships and funding for wider adoption.
