Result description
TVP Solar SA has further improved, standardised and demonstrated its High Vacuum Flat Panel (HVFP) solar thermal technology for low temperature (up to 100C) applications. Today our technology is used to produce carbon-free heat all around the year across 10 countries in Europe, Americas and the Middle East.
Our low temperature systems generate hot water for district heating systems, as well as for industrial processes.

An innovative, top-performing, non-concentrated solar thermal system for temperatures up to 100C based on the patented High Vacuum Flat Panel (HVFP technology of TVP Solar SA.
The system includes: the SolarKeyMark certified (https://solarkeymark.eu/database/) solar thermal panels, the standardised Balance of System (Bos) (e.g. panel support structure & connectors, piping, the thermal block, etc.) and the monitoring and control system.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
- Expanding to more markets /finding new customers
Potential business partners, including district heating project developers, district heating operators, energy/ engineering consultants, ESCOs, engineering/ construction companies with an interest on large-scale applications of solar thermal
- Other Actors who can help us fulfil our market potential
- Research and Technology Organisations
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
Low temperature HVFP solar thermal systems have been demonstrated at small scale (up to 220m2 / 130kW) under SunHorizon, and up to 800m2 / 570kW in Switzerland.
Next steps: Demonstration of the operational integration with heat pumps and/or storage at 1MW and larger scale. Construction of large-scale solar thermal systems for district heating applications in Europe
Manufacturing scalability: TVP operates its own ISO-9001 certified manufacturing facility in Italy (through its subsidiary ‘Tresol Srl’) with a current annual capacity of 120’000m2; soon to be doubled.
Standardisation: The core technology i.e. the panel is fully standardised. The whole Balance of System (BoS) has been standardised to achieve cost reductions and shorten the installation time. Various off-the-self components are standardised depending on the temperature grade of the system operation. A control & monitoring system has been developed to allow remote supervision. Models of the solar systems and indicative layouts – configurations have been produced to facilitate the engineering of solar fields.
Modularity: The solar panels are arranged in strings (in series) and each string is connected in parallel with the supply and return main pipelines. Such arrangement allows easy scale-up of an existing solar field, and the construction of solar fields of different sizes and layouts with suitable adaptation to the available space.
Local partners & subcontractors are increasingly used to outsource non-critical activities like pre-construction works and installation. System commissioning remains a responsibility of TVP.
Replication at different applications and/or operating conditions is feasible, thanks to the above mentioned modularity and standardisation.
Optimal operational integration with complementary solutions (e.g. heat pumps, thermal storage, etc.) may require a supervisory system to ensure integration at control level in line with the user requirements.
There are two business models the company applies:
- Turn-key installation of the solar thermal system (with optional operational support & maintenance contract)
- Long-term (10 + 10 years) heat purchase agreements
Our HVFP technology is patented (10 patent families, 177 patents granted)
- South America
- Europe
