Result description
How can you know if your plant virus is really ‘dead’? VIRTIGATION partner Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has developed a new quick laboratory test, which is able to effectively and efficiently distinguish between infectious and non-infectious virus. Thanks to their new test, expensive and time-consuming bioassays would no longer be necessary in virus detection. WUR lead scientist René van der Vlugt explains the specifics of their new innovation in the latest edition of our VIRTIGATION Research in Brief series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TsEfh9vtLg
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Collaboration
Collaborators from e.g. diagnostic laboratories, plant breeding industry and seed producers to develop laboratory assays for plant viruses that are able to distinguish infectious from non-infectious virus. This can be used to establish the infectious or non-infectious status of these viruses in various matrices i.e. seeds, planting material or surfaces. These assays will help industry and the sector to better monitor and contain the unwanted spread of plant viruses and make a better risk assessment of virus findings in diagnostic procedures.
