Result description
This is a software data broker service that is built over the esthesis platform. Its main function is to gather data from various sources and provide it for third parties’ services in a universal way or package it in appropriate languages, data formats and content structures as required. While in BENEFFICE the data broker service has been implemented for i. energy and gas consumption meters gathered through a gateway and ii. users’ actions gathered by a mobile app, this service functionality is actually reusable and generalisable. In BENEFFICE the data are provided to the multiple energy analytics modules. The service can be used to gather data from sensor or software agents and provide them through an API as necessary to any data consuming applications.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
The technology has been used in these two pilot projects and now in building a health data repository.
Therefore, the customers are:
Data providers: Health data providers, Manufacturing shopfloors, households interested in energy efficiency.
Consuming applications: AI for health, Robotic control, Energy efficiency.
The data broker service does not by itself contribute to any Sustainable development goal, but it is considered as key component to many of them as capturing and measuring data about food consumption can only be triggering applications to combat hunger in the case of Goal no.2, or similarly for Cimate action (G.13), Clean Water and sanitation (G.6) and many others.
- EU and Member State Policy-makers
- International Organisations (ex. OECD, FAO, UN, etc.)
- Other Actors who can help us fulfil our market potential
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The data broker service is mature and has been tested withing BENEFFICE in actual environments so it is already TRL7. The technology has been adopted in the domain of smart manufacturing for capturing data from the production floor and using it for the control of manufacturing machines.
The data broker system has been demonstrated in the Energy Efficiency domain. The need to collect data and provide it in new formats for processing is realised in a variety of applications in Green Deal but also in other areas such as Health or Energy, banking, finance, social media, etc.
The service is located at the middle of data users who need data to take their strategic decisions or offer data related services, and data suppliers who found their business model on gathering and aggregating and finally selling data to various stakeholders.
As long as this service is based on open source tools created in the project the business model is based on the concept of “time and material” to design, integrate and deploy this service in the requested application.
