Result description
EngiCer developed silicon carbide solar receivers with new geometries to capture heat from concentrated solar radiation and transfer it to the airflow. Several different receiver morphologies have been tested at a lab scale and the best performing has been produced in full scale and tested in real application conditions on a solar tower.
Testing results in PSA shows the detailed experimental results of a new cell structure, Voronoi (V) morphology. With this cell structure, two different patterns were selected, constant (VC) and graded pattern (VG). Besides, for each pattern, two different surface treatments were used: surface with less silicon (treatment A: VC, VG) and oxidized surface (treatment B: VCC, VGC). Finally and once the effect of the superficial treatment is isolated the best sample is the Voronoi cell with graded porosity with treatment A: VG
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The ceramic structure has been tested and the best morphology chosen to produce the full-scale absorber which was tested in Almeria. The next steps will require additional testing in CSP facilities and partners for market exploitation.
Material manufacturing, production line active.
For teh project, full-scale items produced in small batch (100 items). Replciable product and process.
Existing business model for other segments.
