Result description
The B-Cubed Data Mobilisation makes it easier for researchers and conservationists to analyse biodiversity data from GBIF and share the results in the EBV Data Portal. The workflow uses the GBIF software and the ebvcube package to help organise data and derived metrics into a clear geographical format and into a logical hierarchical structure. In this way, it facilitates the computation of Essential Biodiversity Variables.
In addition, the data used includes two datasets specifically developed by the B-Cubed project that harmonised the taxonomy: one including occurrences of 193 species listed in Annex I of the Birds Directive, subject to special conservation measures, and another including occurrences of species listed under Regulation (EU) 1143/2014 on invasive alien species (IAS). Hence, the result is especially valuable for monitoring and conservation efforts, and it can be used by both EBV Data Portal users and the wider GEO BON community to share gridded geographic results openly.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Help in technical expertise
We specifically need/are looking for
- Policy and industry representatives who use species occurrence cubes and analyse biodiversity cubes
- Environmental agencies reporting the progress of biodiversity goals
- Scientific community, industry and practitioners, especially EBV Data Portal users and the GEO BON community, who can use the result to structure existing EBV variables
The result guides future users of species occurrence cubes who are willing to openly share and properly document the gridded geographic results.
- Public or private funding institutions
- Research and Technology Organisations
- Academia/ Universities
