Result description
The UNTWIST camelina core collection showed significant plasticity under heat and drought stress. Glasshouse trials revealed line-specific differences in growth, leaf water content, fatty acid composition, and metabolic responses. Field trials across four European sites confirmed that these lines maintain yield and oil production under diverse environments, with variation in flowering time, seed weight, and oil content. Overall, the collection provides a valuable resource for breeding climate-resilient, high-oil camelina varieties.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Grants and Subsidies
- Use of research Infrastructure
- Collaboration
The UNTWIST camelina core collection offers 54 diverse, climate-resilient lines with documented stress responses, oil content, and metabolic profiles. Potential collaborators include research institutions studying abiotic stress and crop plasticity , plant breeding companies, industrial oil producers, climate-smart agriculture initiatives, and startups in bioeconomy or nutraceuticals. Lines are valuable for breeding, stress-resilience studies, and high-value oil applications.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The UNTWIST camelina core collection is at TRL 3, validated in multi-location EU field trials. It offers climate-resilient, high-oil varieties with defined stress tolerance and metabolic markers. We seek research partners, breeding companies, and investors to develop ideotypes, scale seed production, validate performance in diverse environments, and accelerate breeding and commercial applications.
