Result description
An understanding of vaccination is crucial to its acceptance by the aging population. As a healthcare professional, having insights into what influences older adults in deciding whether or not they accept vaccination is therefore fundamental.
The educational platform, integrating principles of adult learning theory and ongoing professional education, includes selected training courses, podcasts, videos, peer-reviewed publications, and workshops, available in five languages and customized for regional needs.
Key sections include vaccination communication, vaccines, infectious diseases, and training, all of which are regularly updated.
We are specifically addressing influenza, pneumococcal, herpes zoster vaccination and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, as well as generic characteristics of the vaccines and diseases.
Upon its development, the educational platform was pilot tested among a panel of healthcare professionals.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The platform’s sustainability is assured through its permanent hosting on the University of Ferrara’s (Italy) servers, and its networking capabilities are strengthened by links with national and international institutions. The platform has been proposed for incorporation into educational programs in Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, and France, for training of medical students as well as practitioners.
In addition, the VITAL team is seeking accreditation from the WHO-supported “Vaccine Safety Net” and has been proposed to the International Collaboration on Advanced Vaccinology Training e-portal. The team is committed to holding regular meetings to ensure the platform’s sustainability and ongoing improvement, with the ultimate goal of facilitating its widespread use and continuous education of healthcare professionals in the field of adult vaccinology.
