Description

The call is part of RCN’s FRIPRO (“Ground-breaking research”) portfolio, which supports curiosity-driven and bold research across all disciplines. This particular call is aimed at experienced scientists who have demonstrated the ability to conduct research of high scientific quality. It supports both basic and applied research, where the project ideas come from the researchers themselves.

Funding Amount

• Funding scale: Applicants may apply for NOK 4,000,000 to NOK 12,000,000 per project.
• Amount of funding presumed available for the call: NOK 750,000,000.

Submission Deadlines

• The call is open-ended: there is no single fixed deadline; applications can be submitted at any time.
• The project must start 8–18 months after application submission.

Submission Conditions

• Applicants: researchers with at least six years of experience after a doctoral degree or approved associate professor qualification are eligible.
• Duration: projects may last 36–96 months.
• The project owner (applicant organisation) must be an approved Norwegian research organisation.
• Project manager must have significant experience (at least six years post-PhD or equivalent).
• The research idea must be original and researcher-initiated.
• Companies and other organisations may not be project owner; they may only participate as subcontractors.
• The research must be of high quality and potential international significance; risk is expected.
• Other conditions (budgeting, reporting, national eligibility) follow RCN’s general rules.

Eligible Applicants

• Approved Norwegian research organisations (universities, university colleges, research institutes) are eligible as applicants.
• Companies and non-research organisations are not eligible as lead applicants; they may only act as subcontractors or partners without lead income.
