FutureFoodS Call 2024

The FutureFoodS Call 2024 aims to jointly develop an EU-wide research and innovation framework to accelerate the transition to a sustainable food system. The mission is to contribute to healthy diets that are safely and sustainably processed, consumed and governed at European level. It aims to generate knowledge that enables governments, businesses and citizens to truly enable system transformations.

Purpose

FutureFoods has prioritised three topics for this first call. They reflect the need for new knowledge and innovations in society and the food sector. In each application one of the following three call topics can be chosen:

Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems

Topic 2: New foods – Fostering innovations in food design, processing and supply via demand and supply reorientation

Topic 3: Empowering sustainable food choices – Enabling environments and dietary shifts

Who can apply

The following countries will participate in this call: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Türkiye.

Research consortia must be comprised of a minimum of three partners from at least three Member States or Associated Countries participating in the call and be eligible to request  funding from the FOs participating in this call  and providing funding for the selected topic.

For applicants from Dutch universities and eligible knowledge institutions, funding is available from NWO – see Annex I of the Call for proposals for the possibilities.

The added value of transnational collaboration should be clearly stated in the application.

What to apply for

For research proposals in this round, consortia can apply for a maximum of € 400,000 in funding from NWO.

When to apply

The submission deadline for pre-proposals is 15 January 2025, at 13:00 CET.

The submission deadline for full proposals is 9 July 2025, at 13:00 CEST.

Der FutureFoodS Call 2024 zielt darauf ab, gemeinsam einen EU-weiten Forschungs- und Innovationsrahmen zu entwickeln, um den Übergang zu einem nachhaltigen Lebensmittelsystem zu beschleunigen. Die Mission ist es, zu einer gesunden Ernährung beizutragen, die sicher und nachhaltig verarbeitet, konsumiert und auf europäischer Ebene verwaltet wird. Ziel ist es, Wissen zu generieren, das Regierungen, Unternehmen und Bürger in die Lage versetzt, einen echten Systemwandel zu ermöglichen.

Zweck

FutureFoods hat für diesen ersten Aufruf drei Themen priorisiert. Sie spiegeln den Bedarf an neuem Wissen und Innovationen in der Gesellschaft und im Lebensmittelsektor wider. In jeder Bewerbung kann eines der folgenden drei Themen gewählt werden:

Thema 1: Der Weg zu nachhaltigen und widerstandsfähigen Lebensmittelsystemen

Thema 2: Neue Lebensmittel – Förderung von Innovationen bei der Gestaltung, Verarbeitung und dem Angebot von Lebensmitteln durch eine Neuausrichtung von Angebot und Nachfrage

Thema 3: Nachhaltige Ernährungsentscheidungen fördern – Ermöglichung von Umfeldern und Ernährungsumstellungen

Wer kann sich bewerben

Die folgenden Länder werden sich an dieser Aufforderung beteiligen: Österreich, Belgien, Bulgarien, Dänemark, Estland, Finnland, Frankreich, Deutschland, Island, Irland, Italien, Litauen, Norwegen, Portugal, Rumänien, Slowakei, Spanien, Schweden, Niederlande, Türkei.

Forschungskonsortien müssen aus mindestens drei Partnern aus mindestens drei Mitgliedstaaten oder assoziierten Ländern bestehen, die sich an der Aufforderung beteiligen, und können bei den an dieser Aufforderung teilnehmenden FOs Mittel beantragen und für das ausgewählte Thema Mittel bereitstellen.

Für Antragsteller aus niederländischen Universitäten und förderungswürdigen Wissenseinrichtungen steht eine Finanzierung durch die NWO zur Verfügung – siehe Anhang I der Aufforderung zur Einreichung von Vorschlägen für die Möglichkeiten.

Der Mehrwert der transnationalen Zusammenarbeit sollte in der Bewerbung klar dargelegt werden.

Was Sie beantragen sollten

Für Forschungsvorschläge in dieser Runde können Konsortien maximal € 400.000 bei der NWO beantragen.

Die Frist für die Einreichung von Erstvorschlägen endet am 15. Januar 2025 um 13:00 Uhr MEZ.

Die Einreichungsfrist für vollständige Vorschläge ist der 9. Juli 2025, 13:00 Uhr MESZ.
