Austrian Climate Research Programme (ACRP) – 18th Call

Description

The Austrian Climate Research Programme (ACRP), implemented under the Climate and Energy Fund and managed by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), supports climate research in Austria. The programme focuses on basic research on climate change, climate action, adaptation, and mitigation, and aims to provide the scientific basis for implementing Austria’s climate strategies, including the National Energy and Climate Plan and the Paris Agreement.

Funding Amount

  • Total call budget: €2,000,000
  • Maximum funding per project: €200,000
  • Funding rate: up to 100% of eligible costs

Eligible costs include:

  • Personnel
  • Material and consumables
  • Equipment usage
  • Travel
  • Third-party costs

Submission Deadlines

  • Call opening: 15 January 2026
  • Submission deadline: 15 April 2026 (12:00 CET)
  • Expected funding decision: by July 2026

Eligible Types of Applicants

Eligible applicants are research organisations conducting non-economic activities, including:

  • Universities (including universities of applied sciences)
  • Non-university research institutions

Additional notes:

  • International research organisations may participate as partners.
  • Companies and other actors may participate only as subcontractors or non-funded partners.

Eligible Countries

  • The programme is national (Austria-focused), requiring an Austrian research institution as applicant.
  • International partners are allowed as part of the consortium.

Submission Conditions

  • Proposals must be submitted electronically via the FFG eCall system.
  • Applications must be submitted in English.
  • Both the proposal and full cost plan must be completed in the system before the deadline.
  • Projects can be submitted as:
    • Individual projects, or
    • Collaborative projects (consortia).

Expected Outcome

The programme aims to:

  • Provide scientific evidence to support climate policy in Austria.
  • Improve understanding of climate systems and impacts of climate change.
  • Support transformative societal and technological change toward sustainability.
  • Contribute to implementation of national and international climate commitments.

Scope

The call funds oriented basic research projects addressing climate change and related policy needs.

Projects must fall within one of the following thematic areas:

  • Understanding the climate system and consequences of climate change
  • Specific support for Austria’s policymakers
  • Transformative change

The programme supports research that contributes to climate mitigation, adaptation, and their interrelations, with a strong policy-relevant dimension.
