3rd German-Chilean Call for Joint R&D Projects of SMEs

This bilateral call supports joint German-Chilean R&D projects aimed at developing innovative products, services, or technical processes with significant market potential. Funding is provided through national programs: ZIM in Germany and Crea y Valida – ZIM in Chile.

Eligible projects must include:

  • At least one Chilean company (registered for at least 24 months and with revenue proof) and one German SME making significant technical contributions.

  • Additional partners from academia or industry are welcome, as subcontractors or formal partners (as per national rules).

  • The project must provide clear added value from the bilateral cooperation (e.g., access to R&D infrastructure, improved knowledge base).

  • Project duration should not exceed 24 months (with possible extensions under specific conditions).

  • A draft consortium agreement (in English) must be available upon submission.

Deadline for submission: June 30, 2025
Submission type: Continuous submission with fixed deadline
Decision expected by: October 2025

Each partner submits:

  • A joint Proposal Application Form (in English), and

  • A national funding application (according to national procedures).

Expected Outcome

The initiative seeks to foster market-oriented innovations through international collaboration. Projects should:

  • Address the international state of the art,

  • Lead to commercializable solutions (products/services),

  • Encourage balanced partnerships (no more than 70% of person-months on one partner in 2-partner projects; 50% if more than two partners),

  • Promote cooperation with mutual technological and commercial benefit.

Scope

Funding is available for R&D projects that:

  • Develop innovative, internationally competitive products, services, or processes.

  • Provide clear market potential and lead to commercial application.

  • Include technical R&D activities relevant to industry, with results close to commercialization.

  • Must be bilateral and balanced, involving active contributions from both countries.

  • Mindestens ein chilenisches Unternehmen (seit mind. 24 Monaten aktiv, mit Umsatznachweis) und ein deutsches mittelständisches Unternehmen müssen wesentlich beteiligt sein.

  • Weitere Partner (Forschungseinrichtungen, andere Unternehmen) sind nach nationalen Richtlinien möglich.

  • Das Projekt muss einen klaren Mehrwert durch die Kooperation bieten (z. B. Zugang zu FuE-Infrastruktur, neues Wissen).

  • Die Projektlaufzeit darf 24 Monate nicht überschreiten (Verlängerung möglich).

  • Es muss ein Entwurf eines Konsortialvertrags (in Englisch) bei Antragstellung vorliegen.
