Result description
The solar folding roof is used over the clarification basin of wastewater treatment plants. 100% of the solar power is consumed on site and increases the self-sufficiency of a wastewater treatment plant by up to 50%. The solar folding roof can be retracted at any time, thus ensuring access to the clarifier.
The solar folding roof also has other positive effects on the operation of a sewage treatment plant. The shadow significantly reduces the formation of algae. Algae formation is a problem for wastewater treatment plants. The algae must be removed regularly, which increases the cost of maintenance.
The pilot plant above the wastewater treatment plant in Chur in Switzerland covers an area of 5’500m2. In the last 12 months the operator has now carried out systematic studies on the effect of the shadow on the formation of algae. The results are very positive. The growth of algae is greatly reduced in the clarifiers, which benefit from the shade. This also reduces the cleaning effort and the associated costs.
It is still too early for concrete figures, but it can be assumed that the reduction is large.
