Result description
This system and communication architecture is based on a secure cloud manufacturing backbone, which secures the collaborative exchange of information, ensures trust among the entities involved and enforces access control in industrial environments. The technical foundation of this backbone is the implementation of strong, Industrial IoT-compatible authentication methods, lightweight encryption, as well as combined user and asset authorization mechanisms designed for securing data chains in industrial applications.
This architecture enhances the resilience of industrial environments, leverage the capabilities of Industrial IoT devices for maximizing productivity, and enables new intelligent and collaborative manufacturing applications for multiple industry sectors.
The end-to-end architecture for securing data chains provides security at different planes by combining the uniqueness of equipment hardware, the integrity of equipment software, the identity of authorized personnel and the versatility of modern cryptographic techniques.
And this at different phases across the production processes: before the generation of information through various authentication mechanisms, during its transmission to the back end via robust encryption, and after it is stored by means of forensics-friendly, fine-grained access control over the encrypted data.
Our manufacturing backbone also offers protection against different types of cyber-attacks, which are common in the industrial landscape, such as insertion of rogue devices, collusion, impersonation, replay and man-in-the-middle attacks.
