Result description
The WATERUN approach to water sensitive urban design combines new, next generation approaches and tools to urban water runoff and management. The WATERUN approach enables urban planning organisations to 1) model and identify potential sources of stormwater pollution, 2) Implement low-cost, rapid monitoring campaigns for prioritization of key areas within a given catchment area, 3) model cost-effective and modular/decentralized applications of blue-green infrastructure, and 4) Establish a stormwater reuse planning and early-warning decision-making system considering public health and environmental risks.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
By the end of the Project (2026), we expect the results to reach TRL 5-6. Next steps consist of finding exploitation partners and interested early adopters to replicate the two pilot studies conducted during the project.
The business model is essentially a consulting service model. As such it is not as scalable as other models, but the replicability is very high. In principle, the approach can be deployed in all towns, cities and even villages in the European Union and beyond.
In the long-term, higher level of automatization and self-servitization could lead to a higher scalability.
