This innovation offer presents a flexible simulation-in-the-loop (SiL) framework for evaluating the operational and environmental benefits of advanced supervisory control strategies in nonresidential buildings. Developed at the FHNW Institute for Sustainability and Energy in Building Construction (INEB), the framework allows testing of forecast-based controllers such as Model Predictive Control (MPC) using transient building simulation models. It supports stakeholders in rapidly assessing CO₂ emission reductions, energy efficiency gains, and economic potential of retrofitting existing HVAC systems with intelligent control logic, without requiring access to physical hardware.
