Result description
Kanthal welding feedstock based on the newly developed FeCRAl alloy will help welding companies and manufacturers of large parts for corrosive environments to achieve longer service lives and better performance by providing durability and resistance to corrosion and thermal cycling to the required high-strength steels that are prone to corrosion and thermal issues. The overlay weld solves this.
This solution comprises a newly developed FeCrAl alloy, which has some advantages over conventional FeCrAl alloys in terms of weldability and formability. Kanthal is informing its marketing and sales representatives about the development to boost potential new product sales after the project is finished. Any application where metallic surfaces need to be protected from high temperature corrosion by means of overlay welding may be of interest.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
- Collaboration
Preparing for mass production in normal production routes. To market the overlay, Kanthal needs an organization that can provide it to final users, while Kanthal can purchase and combine the raw materials.
- Other Actors who can help us fulfil our market potential
- Research and Technology Organisations
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
Production optimization (iterative process for fine tuning), alloy optimization (full-scale lab test), customer pilot installations. To be marketed and funded by Kanthal but in dialog with customers and partners. No huge investments are envisaged in the next future (need for investment in customer relationships and educating the market).
Evaluation considers the use of FeCrAl overlay welding feedstock not only for current and new CSP applications but also other energy applications in need of surface protection, since there is a high interest in this product (biomass and waste boilers for heat and electricity). There may also be opportunities in next generation nuclear power plants. Kanthal aims to be a fully new player on the market for the use in biomass, waste incineration and CSP, together with the help of welding feedstock companies.
