Result description
The DualSun patented PVT Photovoltaic-Thermal hybrid solar panel is producing both electricity and hot water thank to an ultra-thin heat exchanger completely integrated into the photovoltaic panel. The water cools the photovoltaic cells and improves electricity output by 5 to 15% (depending on usage), and furthermore supply heat to heat pumps, pools and/or domestic hot water storages.
With a sleek, all-black finish, the product is easy to install thanks to an innovative hydraulic connector: with DualQuickFit, the panels can be connected together simply by clipping the fittings together.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- To raise awareness and possibly influence policy
- Grants and Subsidies
- Collaboration
The PVT hybrid solar panels market is rather new, but grows quickly.
- Support schemes in each European countries needs to be adapted to support fairly this 2-in-1 product compared to photovoltaic + thermal solar side by side.
- Internationalisation of the technology has to be financed
- Adaptation in systems, depending in each specificity of the country needs to be explored
- Performance upgrade should continue to follow the PV trend in cost and impact reduction
- Public or private funding institutions
- EU and Member State Policy-makers
- Research and Technology Organisations
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The PVT by itself as already a supply / distribution chain in place, the novelty would be about PVT + Heat Pumps systems commercial integration (TP2/ TP4).
Madrid and Riga demosites have shown that some technological upgrades on PVT would be welcome to not change habits of plumbers about pressure in circuits. DualSun will continue developping, produce, certify and commercialize further PVT version. In the meantine, system results on this two demosites will continue to be analysed on a yearly base, to compare performances and costs and results needs to be generalised and specify with specific conditions in different countries (energy prices, local weather, labour and product costs…).
Control optimisation should continue to onboard more anticipation (consumer use, price and grid anticipation…).
In 2024, DualSun aim to launch its first PVT + Heat Pumps offer.
Technical activities towards TRL 9 are related to select the pilot customers for TRL 9 tests, testing the solution at TRL 9, in real operational enviroment (pilot) and finalizing pre-production tests.
Administrative activities towards TRL 9 are related to start contracts with selling channels as well as management of spare parts and accessories.
After-sales activities towards TRL 9 are related to the definition of procedures for technical support, definition of procedures for customers to claim, operation and mintenance technical support, definition of procedures for technical support with spare parts.
Marketing campaign towards TRL9 are related to the creation of a dedicated web-campaign centered on the solution, the creation of a dedicated social media campaign centered on the solution, the setup of a number of remote events (e.g. webinars) to show the achievements of the solution, the identification a (few) final test case of great resonance, that could become a “testimonial” of the solution, the creation of all the useful dedicated services around the product (e.g. model of the product-system combination, free trials for software, lite versions, handbook and manuals, helpdesk service…).
Target geography: France + Switzerland, Benelux + Germany, European Northern countries (Finland, Sweden…).
Activities related to geography are referred to start-up of local technical support offices, including helpdesk, establishment of local value chains (production), establishment of local commercial partnerships (selling), planning of local communication (including partnerships with local consultants).
DualSun has already demonstrated its hability to sell solar modules through distribution with a tighten relation with installers (plumbers, roofers and electrician) in a teaching course and a trust with its final customers through its pateform. From 2M€ turnover in 2019, the growth is raising with 5M€ in 2020, 17M€ in 2021, 40M€ in 2022 and 60M€(P) in 2023. Profitability has been reached since 2021. DualSun is mainly generating its revenue in France, but raised fund in 2022 to internationalise its business: all tools and services are ready to be deployed in other countries.
With already 40.000 installations with DualSun solar panels, PVT + Heat Pump combination should allow a growth relay to reach >100M€. PVT products are integrated in packages validated by DualSun sold by distributors. With online services, DualSun guide its clients and partners from design to installation and beyond.
From product design recyclability (95%), carbon impact (25gCO2/kWh) and local manufacturing (Made-In-France) are onboarded to deliver more and more sustainable PVT product to the market.
