Result description
A double pulsed LIBS system has been developed for material identification in high pressure environments in excess of 600bars or 6000m sea depth. Tests has been conducted at high seas and pressure chambers with impressive results.
- The LIBS system has been tested and results obtained for high pressure environment up to 600bar.
- The LIBS system has been tested at sea depths above 4000m.
- The LIBS system has been tested in turbid waters with insignificant effects on nodules identification.
- The LIBS system is capable of analysing Zinc, Copper, and massive Sulphide samples.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Grants and Subsidies
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
The LIBS system developed is used with ROV. There is need to reduce the size and weight of the existing LIBS system to be carried by the existing ROBUST project AUV or build a bigger or more powerful AUV for 6000 m water depths to carry the developed LIBS system. There is a detailed project business plan/roadmap for a next call opportunity.
