Result description
1) In the framework of NEXTOWER, this result initially provided inputs for two standards (EN 821-2 and ISO 18755). The first inputs were for Standard EN 821-2, devoted to the thermal diffusivity determination of advanced technical ceramics – monolithic ceramics, by means of the Laser Flash technique (LFA). Regarding inputs for ISO 18755, NEXTOWER has proposed the introduction of two new informative Annexes aimed at determining specific heat and thermal conductivity for homogeneous ceramic samples and for porous samples by means of the LFA technique.
2) A CEN (European Committee for Standardization) Workshop Agreement (CWA) (CWA 17726 High temperature accelerated ageing of advanced ceramic specimens for solar receivers and other applications under concentrated solar radiation, https://ftp.cencenelec.eu/EN/ResearchInnovation/CWA/CWA17726_2021e.pdf, has recently been published that defines the requirements, operation and analysis for very high temperature accelerated ageing of flat ceramic specimens for solar receivers under concentrated solar radiation.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- To raise awareness and possibly influence policy
International and European Standards Organisations (ISO and CEN) need to approve the proposal for the modification. A new working group (at the ISO and/or CEN level, in which CertiMac and UNE are involved) was set up to develop the amendment (or harmonized standard). Then, ISO and CEN will have to follow their approval phases before the publication of the new amendments (or the new harmonized standard). The main goal is to raise awareness of the obtained result.

Increase communication with the technical committees and parties interested in performing better tests on material ceramics. The result will be added to the current service offering as consultancy to CertiMaC and UNE who will act as a contact between customers and organisations actually performing the test but also CertiMaC and UNE will potentially directly provide training and support to those organisations implementing the testing process. Current active promotion by NEXTOWER responsible partners.
