This BMFTR funding call focuses on Funding for Innovative Data Analytics in Women's Health and Gender‑Sensitive Medicine.

Inter‑ and transdisciplinary research projects that analyse existing health datasets for women’s health and gender‑sensitive medicine using innovative data‑driven methods (e.g., AI, modelling). Projects must optimise dataset representation of females, develop bias‑detection tools, and improve or adapt analytical approaches to reduce sex‑specific distortions.

Eligible applicants primarily include universities and higher education institutions and non-university research and technology organisations. All beneficiaries, including research institutions within the meaning of Article 2 (point 83) of the AGVO, shall ensure that no indirect (meanable) aid flows to undertakings. For this purpose, the provisions of point 2.2 of the R&D&I Framework shall be taken into account. Intermediate services Applicants must be identified by relevant preparatory work in research and development on topics of women's health or gender-sensitive medicine, use of health data, if applicable AI methods and the clinical discipline relevant to the project. The call mainly supports collaborative projects and consortia. Grants are granted as non-refundable grants by means of project funding. The basis for funding at universities, research and science institutions and comparable institutions that do not fall within the scope of economic activities is the eligible project-related expenditure (for Helmholtz Centres and the Fraunhofer Society, the eligible project-related costs), which can be individually funded up to 100 percent, taking into account the legal requirements. In the case of non-economic research projects at universities and university clinics, in addition to the eligible expenditure financed by the BMFTR, a project fee of 20 percent is granted. The research projects can usually be funded for a period of up to two years.

To enhance the quality and representativeness of health data for women, to create transparent bias‑mitigation techniques, and to deliver AI models that support gender‑sensitive diagnostics and therapies. The call seeks to close the Gender Data Gap in clinical research.

The procedure is single-stage. The current submission deadline is 2026-08-09.
