The result described above represents one of the initial findings of a *preliminary* analysis on survey data which has been collected over the past number of weeks. An in-depth survey was completed by 250 individuals (99 male, 119 female, 3 gender non-conforming) living in the wider River Shannon region, with a mean age of 36.2 years.
Part of the survey included questions relating to how far they lived from the river, their flood experiences, their preference for specific engineered and catchment based solutions, which form the basis of the result that is outlined.
Using quantitative analyses, it was found that there was greater support for the community level solutions, with significantly more support for these than the engineered solutions presented. It was also found that those closer to the river were slightly more in favour than those further away which may be interpreted as a desire to maintain the aesthetics of the area. Further analyses is currently underway to determine what other factors may link with these findings.
