Result description
QDB (Qbeast Data Base) is based on the OutlookTree (OTree), a novel multi-dimensional index with efficient data sampling that runs on distributed key-value databases. We improved our previous solution, the D8tree, and its limit when dealing with write-intensive applications and we investigate how to reduce its transactional and storage requirements without compromising query performance. As a result, the Outlook Tree achieves high indexing performance by building at first a sub-optimal index that gets opportunistically optimized in a second time. We tested the performance and the scalability of the OTree, as it has been applied in HPC environments. The OTree is not only convenient for users, but it also speeds up the application being faster than alternative databases and even plain file storage.
