The high-performance tubes enable the utilisation of highly corrosive fluids such as liquid lead in high-temperature and high-strength applications with long service life and low degradation rates

This solution combines both a high strength steel (Alloy 800HT) and a high temperature corrosion resistant alloy (FeCrAl) in the same alloy. It’s used for the secondary heat exchanger that has to work under high internal pressure. The two materials used are well known but their interaction with molten lead was unknown. The production route is new, while the manufacturing process is known.

Today there are no solutions on the market that can operate in molten lead at elevated temperatures that at the same time have high creep strength. This limits the process temperatures of CSP in general and won’t alloy for the introduction of molten metals in solar energy systems. This solution combines both a high strength steel and a high temperature corrosion resistant alloy in the same alloy. Kanthal/SMT have the capability to realize this product internally, which gives us an edge on the market.
