This platform enables analysis and responses for current and historic turbine data, while solving problems that existing solutions have: secure transfer (with external partners), timely transfer, ongoing access control, high computing power requirements, reliable notification of issues. IBM’s solution for degradation detection and failure prediction is deployed and maintained in a cloud environment and provides an out of the box solution.
This IBM Cloud based ecosystem consist of a platform for collection, storage and flow of monitoring data coming from wind farms. The platform provides secure interfaces to collect data with custom handlers to process incoming data, before storing them in noSQL or relational databases, based on how the data is used by the analytics models. The use of a message hub enables invocation of hosted analytics computations as the data arrives, and ensures the flow of the results into databases, or external systems. This ecosystem is scalable, costs are proportional to the actual data and compute usage and can be easily offered as a service. Applications in the IBM Cloud are assembled from a catalogue of native and portable services.

This result achieved a TRL-9 in the project. The solutions can be directly leveraged in the market.
Our platform is scalable in terms of functionality and cost. As described above, it is easy to customise according to the data and compute usage requirements. In addition, IBM Cloud offers the widest array of database options, from relational to NoSQL, while ensuring strong consistency, high integrity, and low latency.
Our platform can be easily deployed for other windfarms. It just requires re-configuring the cloud deployment environment to provision more or less resources as needed and therefore accommodate different windfarms almost seamlessly.
The cost savings achieved via performance improvements of offshore wind turbines are considerably higher than the ongoing costs of the Romeo platform.
