Result description
The neutron chamber is built to be transportable and shield all neutron produced within to protect users, plus it is used to termalize the neutron to enanche measurements capabilities. A conveyor is used to automatize the drum positioning and can be integrated in a supply chain.
The system is composed by:
- N.12 detection blocks equipped with 7 3He detectors each;
- N. 2 monitoring detectors;
- N.1 neutron generator [3];
- N.1 252Cf neutron source to be located for testing purposes;
- A rotating plate used for the motion of the drum during the measurement.
All the instruments are cabled to have all the read-out electronics and the power supplies outside the active zone to reduce to the minimum radiological problems.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- To raise awareness and possibly influence policy
- Collaboration
We are looking for collaboration with research organization of policy makers, as well as opportunities to commercialize our products.
- EU and Member State Policy-makers
- International Organisations (ex. OECD, FAO, UN, etc.)
- Research and Technology Organisations
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The neutron inspection system has been tested estensivly during the MICADO project, we have used it in a working envoroment with drums. Unfortunately, the system is composed by parts belonging to different partners, some of which have also be recyled from other systems/experiments. Therefore we would like to build a complete system from scratch and commision in a real operating enviroment.
The result is replicable as it is and already could be used by different waste operators thanks to its intrinsic flexbility, it is composed by commercially avalable components and easy to replicate designs. It was conceived to be adaptable to different end-user requirements, such modifications do not impact the replicability.
