With this handbook and toolkit, you can learn how to develop an Urban Living Lab, based on the lessons learned, research and practical experiences from the UNaLab project. The tips included here are given by Living Lab experts who successfully have set up a Living Lab in their own community. You will learn about the questions which need to be asked, the roles of the people working in a Living Lab and the obstacles which you need to watch out for. At the end of the handbook, you will find an interactive tool to guide you through your Living Lab journey. In this handbook, the focus is on Urban Living Labs – meaning Living Labs operating within an urban setting (in a city).

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The approach has already exploited into the market, and for example some other projects (e.g., DigiBy in Sweden) as used this open access handbook and framework to develop their own Rural Living Lab. The ULL handbook will be used by Botnia living lab in the future projects, and also can be customized in the context of innovation development in various research and innovation projects.
The Urban Living Lab RoadMapping Tooklit is fully scalable. Although originally developed and validated in an urban context, some other projects (e.g., DigiBy in Sweden) have used this open access handbook and framework to develop their own Rural Living Lab.
The Urban Living Lab RoadMapping Toolkit represents a standardized methodology and suite of tools, but remains fully customizable. The Urban Living Lab RoadMapping Toolkit is already being used in other EU and local projects. The resource is open access and publicly available. However, if it is going to be digitalized, several workshops with living lab experts can be held and the digital version may be developed accordingly. The toolkit can also be customized for other innovation types (other than NBS) such as digital innovation, educational innovation and so forth
The Urban Living Lab RoadMapping Toolkit is inherently sustainable as a core element of LIving Labs in general is to enhance long-term sustainability of initiatives by adding value to stakeholders, the environment and society thorugh collaborative innovation.
